Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port + Creme Brulee at Ruth’s Chris is one way to be over-the-top decadent

ruthschriscremebrulee-1

Do you ever think you hate something, only to try it later and realize that you had it all wrong?

Prior to our trips to California, I really didn’t love port wine. Something snapped on our recent Wine Country trip, and now I see why drinking your dessert is a great way to end a meal: port really does compliment dessert or replace dessert. Will and I shared a few appetizers at the bar at Ruth’s Chris, and then decided to try a dessert with port. Skipping entrees was definitely the right decision. Instead of opting to just replace dessert last night, I decided that creme brulee and port was a fine idea, and my decadent choice did not disappoint.

The Graham’s 20 Year Tawny Old Port is rich, creamy, and a little nutty with notes of toffee and  perfectly complimented the creamy sweet creme brulee. Definitely a significant indulgence, but well worth it! I’d also recommend this wine as an after-dinner drink to replace dessert, because it can stand alone as a fantastic wine without the creme brulee.

Also, the iPad wine list at Ruth’s Chris is really fun to browse, and makes picking out wine fun and interactive.

Pairings with the Graham’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Pairings | Food

Any sort of creamy and rich dessert will pair well with this wine : obviously the creme brulee is a perfect match, but also a Caramel layer cake, any sort of toffee dessert, and butterscotch with chocolate would all be unique pairings that would enhance the flavors in this wine.

Pairings | Friends

Well, dessert and port are really the makings of a romantic night out, aren’t they? This is a great port to share with your sweetie.

Pairings | Style

Since we enjoyed this at Ruth’s Chris, I’d say keep it chic and casual. I wore a pair of linen shorts with a dressy top, wedges, and my Charleston rice beads. Charleston rice beads are apparently sold out everywhere, but I got mine at Centro Shoes at Market Common in Myrtle Beach and I love them.
