Over the summer, my friend told me about the Cinemark Movie Club: “You get one free ticket a month, plus discounts on concessions, and buy tickets on the app without the fees.” Sold. Since then, I’ve made much more of an effort to go the movies with my family.
My husband I have taken the kids to see movies (Aladdin, Toy Story 4) and I went to see Judy with my mother-in-law last weekend (which was kind of stressful.)
Today, my husband and I had a free afternoon and decided to see a movie. Our other alluring option was a kids-free trip to Costco, but Movie Club is on our radar. “What movie should we see?” We watched several previews before landing on Zombieland Double Tap.
Thought-provoking cinematic masterpieces worthy of Oscar nominations are no match for a Costco trip. Costco is Sunday happy hour: samples aka tapas, running into people you know dressed in yoga pants, and stocking up on pantry staples. That’s like a level 9 way to spend your afternoon. But Zombieland Double Tap? Definitely level 10.
Zombieland Double Tap is a comedic thriller that requires zero critical thinking to follow. My husband noted,”I’d put it up there with Snakes on a Plane as a movie you’d need to see in the movie theater.” (I’m not quite sure I can concur, as Snakes on a Plane in the theater was a once-in-a-lifetime experience with an over-enthusiastic audience that cheered and danced and shouted back Samuel L. Jackson lines at the movie screen.)
Our heroes from the original Zombieland – Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jessie Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin – have survived the zombie apocalypse for another decade. They run all over the country from the White House to Graceland fighting zombies and regaling the crowds with witty banter, inappropriate comments, and heart-pumping action. I laughed out loud from beginning to end (while I wasn’t cringing at the zombie blood.)
In the immortal lip-synced words of Emma Stone, “All I do is win.” And this movie wins for pure entertainment.
