How many photos, on average, do you think you take of your children each year? I prefer to take photos with my Fuji x100s, occasionally my Canon t4i, and when I don’t have those cameras in my hand, I’m shooting with my iPhone. Therefore, I have built quite the collection of photos. So far this year, I’ve taken over 1,000 photos with my nicer cameras and probably 1,000 more with my iPhone.
I really try not to let them sit on my hard drive or in my ThisLife.com gallery… or just share on Facebook. Printing photos in high quality is very important. I love to see the actual photo and use a local printer, 803 Labs, when I want prints. (Unsolicited advice: Moms, do not print at CVS or a similar company. The quality is horrendous.)
I’ve tried a variety of photo book companies, and I am thrilled to have discovered Montage Books. They offered to send me one for this review (yay!) and I absolutely love the book. These are different than others I’ve ordered – they are like the photo books that professionals have printed for weddings and babies. AND THEY ARE AFFORDABLE.
I write that in all caps because other photo books of this quality are cost prohibitive. It’s hard for me to part with $150… which is about the range I’ve seen books like this cost. The price of these, however, are much more palatable: the small book starts at $29.99, the medium size starts at $49.99 and the large starts at $99.99.
The outer cover is a plush, cushion-y soft black cover with the photo (or photos) of your choice on the cover. I think this simple design looks great on a coffee table.
Here’s what sets a Montage photo book apart from other photo books, in my opinion: the board-book-like pages and high quality printing.
I chose to do a book with fewer but larger photos of my two babies (one is an actual baby and the other, who is five, will always be my baby.) I did not include my iPhone photos because I wanted the photography to be consistent throughout, and I’m very happy with my choice. I will create another book with a collection of photos of the people and photos from the hospital… this book, for me, was to display the best photography of my children to make a coffee table book.
The book arrives in a white gift box, ready to give as a gift. This would make an excellent present for Mother’s Day, and right now, Montage is offering free shipping.

Disclosure: Montage sent me the photo book to review, but all opinions are my very own, and I highly recommend ordering one to show off your photography!
