A Good Taste of New Orleans

New Orleans is known for food, music, and Hurricanes – here’s what we loved in New Orleans!

New Orleans Field Notes

YOUR NOLA TO DO LIST

we spent a few days exploring New Orleans. here’s what we recommend.

Food Tour

BOOK A FOOD TOUR.

Food, history, more food, walking, and drinks if you want it. Our food guide pointed out the best Hurricane on Bourbon Street, history highlights of the cultural influences of the food, and made the entire 3-hour tour a blast. This is a great way to discover the French Quarter!

Sheraton Downtown

STAY WHERE YOU CAN WALK EVERYWHERE.

We loved our stay at the downtown Sheraton, which was a quick walk to everything in the French Quarter and a pedicab away from some of the other places we explored, like Bacchanal.

SPLIT A BOTTLE OF WINE + LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC

Bacchanal is one of the coolest wine venues in the country – it’s like you’ve been invited to a cool, intimate party. Pick a bottle of wine, grab an ice bucket +wine glasses and head to the backyard for live music. You can pick cheese + meat and they’ll make you a spread, or you can order food.

HEAD TO BOURBON STREET – EARLY.

Bourbon Street is full of live music and joy and fun – and it’s not too crazy if you get there late afternoon / early evening.

SHARE BEIGNETS + CAFE AU LAIT

You have to stop by the famous Cafe Du Monde, which has been serving beignets since 1862.

SIP NOLA’S BEST HURRICANE.

According to our food tour guide, the best Hurricane is at Red Fish Grill because they use real fruit juice. Confirmed: it’s fantastic!

TRY GOD’S BLT.

Our server called the fried oyster BLT at Cochon “God’s BLT” and she’s not wrong. That thing is a monster of flavor and memorable. It’s huge so you can share.
