Our group got the tough-to-get dinner reservation at House of Prime Rib, despite none of us thinking we really loved prime rib. After watching a bunch of YouTube videos about this famous restaurant, we all thought we were prepared for the experience – but we weren’t. We were blown away by the nostalgia, the energy, the service – and genuinely happy groups of diners celebrating special occasions or just having a nice dinner out. Such good energy in this place!

Why go: House of Prime Rib is an iconic and historic San Francisco restaurant, and a place to visit at least once if you are a SF fan like we are. The vintage glamour, the table side service, and the wall of photos make this a special treat.

What we’d order again: the Prime Rib. Obviously. You have a few choices, but prime rib is the only thing to consider. It comes with a variety of horseradish sauces which are all delightful – particularly if you love your nose to burn with the horseradish spice power. You have your choice of sides (or get all of them) – creamed spinach, corn, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Plus a slice of Yorkshire pudding. We ordered a bottle of the Trefethen Cab and the entire meal was an absolutely memorable experience.
