Looking for the best wine to pair with dim sum? We found it. During our San Francisco food adventures, we stopped at Yank Sing, the city’s iconic dim sum restaurant, and paired Whispering Angel Rosé with classic dumplings and small plates. The result? A bright, balanced pairing that proves rosé belongs at the dim sum table.
We originally brought a bottle of Chablis all the way from South Carolina — but without a way to chill it in time for our reservation, we pivoted to one of our favorites: Whispering Angel Rosé. (We still think Chablis would be a delightful wine + dim sum experience… so might need to plan another adventure!)
This stop quickly became one of our favorites, and kicks off our new Wine & Dine Stories on YouTube series.
The Story
Yank Sing came recommended by a sommelier friend, and it lived up to the hype. Carts roll right up to your table, stacked high with steamed dumplings and sizzling plates. You simply point, choose, and watch your table fill up.
Rosé turned out to be the perfect match — its bright acidity and red-fruit notes balanced the salty, savory flavors of each dish that rolled our way.

What We Ordered
🥟 Shrimp Dumplings
🍖 Shanghai Pork Spareribs
🥢 Pork Potstickers
🥠 BBQ Pork Buns
🦐 Siu Mye (pork & shrimp dumpling)
🌿 Snap Peas with Chili Soy
Each dish was perfectly bite-sized and bursting with flavor — and that chilled glass of rosé kept every bite feeling fresh.
A Happy Accident
At some point we realized we’d been using the tea cups for soy sauce.
Other tables were politely sipping tea.
We were dipping dumplings — and honestly, no regrets. They made the perfect little vessels.
The Pairing
Whispering Angel Rosé — from Provence — is light, dry, and full of delicate red-fruit character. It cuts through the richness of dim sum while complementing the sweetness in the BBQ pork and the savory spice of the spareribs.
It’s proof that rosé deserves a seat at the dim sum table.
