We love a weekend getaway, especially when it’s only a few hours away. Lucky for us, we’re only two hours away from Charleston, SC and spent a night away. We walked King Street, had dinner at Coast, and went to (some of*) a concert at Charleston Music Hall with our kids on Saturday. On Sunday, we decided to head to Patriot’s Point and a Shem Creek restaurant for lunch.
*Was a concert with kids a great idea?? It would have been a better idea if the headline act started earlier than 9pm… they were spent by the time the musicians took the stage so we left early!!
Patriot’s Point
We started the morning with a visit to Patriot’s Point. Patriot’s Point has been open since 1976, which is a naval and maritime museum. You can pick up the boat to head out to Fort Sumter and visit the USS Yorktown. On this trip, we decided just to tour the USS Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier. We spent a little over an hour exploring the aircraft carrier, and both of our kids really enjoyed the experience! Their favorite part was the flight simulator, which really made you feel like you’re taking off, flying around, and then landing on an aircraft carrier! Tickets are $27 for adults, $16 for kids, and free for kids under 6.

Shem Creek Restaurant to Try
Shem Creek is located in Mount Pleasant, about 15 minutes from downtown Charleston. It’s a popular destination located on the waterway with plenty of options. This trip, we decided to check out Vickery’s. This spot is located right on the water with beautiful views from the deck – or from the picnic tables in the sandy beach area! Our kids loved to walk around and look at the boats and hunt for crabs. This restaurant is known for their burgers, but I tried the salmon BLT and the shrimp appetizer – both were delicious. Plus, there were plenty of kid-friendly menu options so the whole family was happy!
This was a fun day in the Mount Pleasant area!
