Looking for the best drink to pair with hibachi? We found it — and it’s not wine. At Miyabi Japanese Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach, we swapped the Cabernet for Momo Kawa Sake, and the result was as lively as the hibachi flames themselves.

A Wine Guy Walks Into a Japanese Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach…
… and orders sake. Here’s how it went.
🎥 Watch the video:
Highlights:
- We tried Momo Kawa sake instead of wine — and Will (the wine guy) gives his take.
- The hibachi show is always 🔥 — literally.
- Local tip: order the hibachi shrimp.
- Best dipping sauce is the mustard sauce – and usually you need to ask for it.
- It’s loud, it’s fun, and yes, we’ll be back.
🔥 The Experience
The hibachi show was pure dinner-theater joy — full of flying shrimp, sizzling steak, and onion volcanoes that make everyone at the table cheer. The local secret? Order the hibachi shrimp and ask for the mustard sauce (it’s not always on the table, but it’s the best dipping sauce there is).
It’s loud, it’s fun, and you’ll smell like grilled perfection afterward — in the best way.
🍶 The Pairing
Momo Kawa Sake — smooth, slightly fruity, and just chilled enough — was the perfect complement to smoky steak and buttery shrimp. It held its own against the umami and soy, something few wines can do as well.
Will (our resident wine guy) gave it his stamp of approval, proving that sometimes the best pairing at a Japanese steakhouse isn’t a bottle of red — it’s a crisp pour of sake.
