We love spending the weekend in Columbia, and have stayed at several places around town. The Moxy Marriott in Downton Columbia across for the SC state Capitol is DEFINITELY our favorite – but not a place we’d bring our kids (rooms are too small.) The hotel is social with a lobby bar, rooftop bar, taco truck, and games.
Downtown Columbia, SC Moxy Marriott – Walk to Soda City Market + Capitol Views
This social hotel is the most fun place to say if you don’t have kids – a bar and taco food truck in the lobby, a bar on the rooftop, and a mesmerizing sand table will keep you entertained for hours. The rooms are efficiently compact with enough quirky details to make it a unique stay plus you have views of the South Carolina Capitol out of your window. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Soda City Market and this hotel is right in the middle of it.

2. Dinner at Saluda’s
We had a wonderful dinner at Saluda’s in Columbia. We drove to the restaurant – it’s not within walking distance of the Moxy – but it is definitely a restaurant to add to your Columbia list.
- A sophisticated casual atmosphere
- Beautiful covered porch for outdoor seating
- Creative Menu
- That burrata salad was the best salad I’ve ever had
3. Location: Downtown for Exploring Soda City Market
We LOVE Saturday Soda City Markets with cool food trucks, vendors, music, and shopping along the Downtown Columbia streets. The Moxy is right in the middle of it so you can walk Soda City Market right out of the hotel – and bring your lunch back to the hotel and eat it in the lobby 🙂
4. The Room: Comfortable + Cool Views
- Efficiently comfortable: the room is pretty small but well laid out to be comfortable with a bed, bathroom, and wall space to hang your bags
- Unique details: the antique-y phone, vintage-looking fridge, and wall hooks made the room a little quirky and different
- Views: You cannot beat views of the South Carolina Capitol Building, right outside your room!
