Sometimes the best trips are the easy ones.

We love our stays at the Marriott Courtyard Charleston Historic District because it let us experience Charleston the way we prefer—on foot, without a schedule, and without needing a car. From dinner downtown to morning walks along The Battery, everything we want to do is an easy walk from the hotel.

Staying here made this weekend feel relaxed from start to finish.

This wasn’t about chasing new spots or overplanning. It was about staying somewhere that made the city feel accessible and familiar—in the best way.

Why This Location Made the Trip Work

What “Historic District” really meant for this stay was convenience. Once we checked in, we didn’t get back in the car. We walked to dinner, drinks, music, shopping, and quiet morning strolls—all without thinking twice about logistics.

For a short Charleston trip, that mattered more than anything else. The hotel became a true home base: easy to come and go, close to everything, and uncomplicated.

This isn’t an ultra luxury stay with posh restaurants and a spa… and it doesn’t need to be because you want to walk to the restaurants, brunch spots, and shopping close to the hotel.

Everything We Walked To from the Hotel

One of the best parts of this stay was how naturally the weekend unfolded just by stepping outside.

Slightly North of Broad (SNOB)

We headed to dinner at Slightly North of Broad, a longtime popular restaurant that feels like a classic Charleston experience. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to when you want a great meal without overthinking it.

Champagne + Caviar at Camellias

French fries and champagne are a classic pairing that is never a bad idea. Stop by the Hotel Bennet for champagne and caviar fries at Camellias—a spot we’ve loved on past visits and were happy to revisit again. Some places are worth repeating.

Charleston Music Hall

We caught live music at the Charleston Music Hall, wandered along King Street for a bit of shopping, and ended our evenings with easy walks back to the hotel. ➡️ our favorite Charleston music venues

The next morning, we took our time strolling around The Battery, one of those Charleston rituals that never gets old—quiet, scenic, and best enjoyed without a schedule. And then went shopping on King Street!

82 Queen

We had lunch at 82 Queen, an iconic Charleston restaurant with a fantastic Southern menu. The restaurant was packed but we found two seats at the bar which was fun! The tomato pie is DELIGHTFUL. Shrimp and grits and she crab soup really round out the perfect Lowcountry lunch.

Why We Loved This Style of Charleston Trip

There’s something really satisfying about visiting a place you already love and letting it be simple. We didn’t feel the need to cram everything in or discover something new every hour.

Instead, we revisited favorite spots, walked everywhere, and let the city set the pace. Staying somewhere central made that easy—and that ease is what made the weekend memorable.

Who This Stay Is Best For

This hotel (and this style of trip) is ideal if:

  • You’re planning a short Charleston getaway
  • You want to walk everywhere instead of dealing with parking
  • Location matters more to you than luxury amenities
  • You’re revisiting Charleston and want a familiar, comfortable base

This is our go-to hotel for a visit to Charleston. We also love the Hotel Bella Grace, which is a smaller boutique hotel but close to this location.

A weekend vacation doesn’t always have to be a big production. Sometimes it’s just about choosing the right place to stay, walking out the door, and letting the city unfold naturally.

And honestly, those tend to be our favorite trips.
