Curly beach hair sounds great when you live in the Lowcountry. However, managing natural curls is a journey.
Attempting to straighten your curls takes a lot of time and effort and products.
If you live in the Lowcountry, you know that a blowout cannot combat Carolina weather.
By the time you step out of the bathroom, your straightened, smooth locks meet the southern humidity and transform into a frizzy, untamed mess.
It feels like a crushing defeat against the heat.
I gave up the battle and decided to embrace curls this summer. I have a lot of natural wave in my hair that in the past has been frizzy and / or not curly without a little effort. I’ve figured out how to tame my waves into hair that looks like I wear it that way on purpose. It’s so much easier than trying to wage war against the humidity! My hair doesn’t stand a chance at staying straight.
Here are my favorite products and tips for frizz-free beach waves!
Curly Beach Hair Tips
Advice from the internet that has worked for me:
- Find the right products
- Use a microfiber towel to dry your curls because it will reduce frizz
- The more you wear your hair curly, the curlier it will get
- Don’t wash every day – but you can get your hair wet, and it will make it curlier. I’ve worked out and showered, not washed it, and add product – curls come bouncing back
- Put your hair in a pony on top of your head before you go to sleep to preserve the curls
- Use a diffuser to speed up the drying process- but it’s not necessary!
Best Products for Easy Beach Waves
1. Davines This is a curl building serum
I’m pretty sure this is the product that made my hair go from a frizz-fest to tamed curly beach hair. I put this in my hair while it’s still dripping wet, comb it through with my fingers or wide-tooth comb, and then wrap it up in a microfiber towel.
If you’re going to try just one product, I think this is the one that transformed my curls. SHOP Davines, Curly Hair Serum, $32
2. Davines Shampoo & Conditioner
I love Davines. However, I don’t think the shampoo & conditioner products are as essential as the other products. I like the curly shampoo and conditioner, which is what I’m using now. Does it make my hair curlier? Who knows, but I do know that combined with the curl serum, my curls have never looked better. I love Davines smooth shampoo and conditioner too for a frizz-free, smooth blow-out. Either shampoo / conditioner would be great for curls, in my opinion. I hate to tell you, but the shampoo and conditioner are pricey – and worth the price. SHOP Davines LOVE CURL Shampoo + Davines LOVE CURL Conditioner
3. Olaplex No. 6
This product has a cult following for good reason: it works. It reduces frizz for a blow out and for natural curls. My hair stylist uses this and recommended it. I’ve used it to smooth out when I straighten my hair. I decided to try it to tame my curls and OMG! Next level. They look so much more defined. I put this on after I take my hair out of the microfiber towel. I scrunch it a little. Sometimes I use the diffuser, sometimes just air dry. SHOP Olaplex No. 6
