If you search pinterest, you’ll discover creative parents have transformed basic play kitchens into beautiful little masterpieces for their kids. I am not one of those creative parents. Is a play kitchen worth the expense and space it takes up?
An obvious question. As parents, we don’t like to frivolously buy toys with our hard-earned dollars that we could spend on ourselves, right? So I’m happy to tell you YES, it is worth the expense. A million times yes. You just can’t go wrong with a kitchen in your playroom – boys and girls love to play with them, and you can have a few small accessories like veggies and spoons.
I was worried ours would play with it a minute and then get over it in a few days, and it would sit in the corner, untouched, taking up play room real estate.
That has not been the case. Our little kitchen has logged hours of play time with both of our kids. We have a little wooden Ikea kitchen ($79) and our daughter (4) plays with it almost daily and has since she was about 2.
We added on the Melissa & Doug grocery store last year for Christmas which has been amazing with the exception of the times I have to play the grocer, which requires an uncomfortable crouch behind the counter 😂
