While we were visiting The Greenbrier a few months ago, we stayed in a cottage that had a stunning pineapple chandelier and I embarked on an internet quest to find something similar.
I love the whimsical flair of the leaves and the antique gold color. It’s sophisticated but not pretentious. A crystal chandelier would look very out of place in our dining room. The one that’s hanging currently came with our home, and I like it but don’t love it:
My husband found the exact pineapple chandelier from the Greenbrier (!) but it’s discontinued. Womp, Womp. Also expensive, no surprise, since Carlton Varney and Dorothy Draper have fabulous taste. It was discounted to $2645… not exactly in my lighting budget. However, I then searched for chandeliers from the same manufacturer, and at $1700 (with a discount!) I discovered this Wildwood Lamps Gold & Scrolls chandelier that I love:
My mom questioned, “Don’t you think it’s a bit ridiculous to spend $2000 on a chandelier?” And I replied to her question with a question, “Is it?” She then pointed out that I was “trying to buy a Ferrari on a Subaru budget” which settled that debate. It’s just so unfortunate to be blessed with such great taste.
So, most likely, my search has ended with this blog post since yes, it is a bit ridiculous to spend nearly $2000 on a chandelier. Mothers are always right (after the teenage years.) I do have a baby girl to dress and a nursery to decorate, after all, and I’m sure my taste for her will be equally as high-end.
Designer friends, do you have any resources or lighting sites? I seem to gravitate to the high-end selections… would love some ideas!
