What are your favorite summer dresses for work? This week, after a conversation with friends about work attire fails, I’ve been thinking about how we make statements: statement earrings, statements on social media, statements that spread joy, and statements that inspire.
What we wear and what we share also makes a statement. It should be intentional and project the best image of our selves.
Clinton Kelly, from What Not to Wear, recommends, “shop like it’s a job. Don’t shop for entertainment, shop like you mean it. Tell yourself, “I need clothes for work. These are important tools in my career. Either to get to the next level or to help me to keep this job. I want to make sure that my bosses know that I’m here, I mean business and I’m paying attention.”
My go-to brands for summer dresses for work:
Dresses that are machine-washable and wrinkle resistant
Jude Connally makes magical dresses out of a material that travel well, wear well, and stay wrinkle-free out of suitcases and throughout the day. I think you could toss one of these dresses in a ball in your suitcase and wear it.
Timeless Jackie O style dresses
Elizabeth McKay is my favorite designer. Flattering styles, gorgeous designs – classics dresses that won’t go out of style in the next fifty years.
Classic, flattering dresses
Tyler Boe has a great line of fun dresses for summer and winter, and they are always in rotation. I love them because they are flattering and cute and don’t hug my hips.
I love investing in classic styles for my work wardrobe to wear year after year, then adding trendy jewelry and accessories to give them a different look.
Talk to me: what are your go-to styles for work?
