Lady Bird Johnson gives you the insider scoop on the LBJ presidency, in her own voice
In plain sight lady bird Johnson podcast

A Lady Bird Johnson podcast may seem like an obscure recommendation. However, I promise Lady Bird’s storytelling will have you hooked. Lady Bird Johnson recorded audio diaries in the 1960s. How crazy is that? It’s like she predicted a future Podcast would share her story. Journalist Julie Sweig uses these recordings to tell the incredible tumultuous story of the LBJ era.

The first episode begins with Lady Bird describing JFK’s assassination day. Powerful.

Then, Lyndon B. Johnson becomes President, and Lady Bird becomes First Lady.

I didn’t know that much about Lady Bird Johnson before I listened to this podcast. Now, I’m a fan.

Listening to Lady Bird’s soft, Southern accent detail major world events is fascinating. She describes the events in a calm, conversational way like she’s calling you on the phone to tell you about her day. Except her days include three assassinations, traveling across the country to promote her beautification projects, and directing her husband’s political career.

The First Lady gives you the insider scoop of one of the most dramatic and important periods in American history. She talks about her experiences with riots and protests. Her descriptions, in her words, in her voice, is an eerie parallel to the same racial unrest and issues we face 60 years later.
