How to make a road trip with kids more fun

There are two types of people on a road trip with kids: 1) those that stop as few times as possible and race to their destination 2) those that stop a lot

There are two types of people on a road trip with kids: 1) those that stop as few times as possible and race to their destination 2) those that stop a lot.

We stop a lot, and make the road trip with kids to the vacation a part of the vacation. I realize this would drive #1 people insane, but hear me out: we may get to the destination later but we have fun along the way.

For example, on our way to Disney, we saw a few billboards for Skipper Fish Camp in Darien, Georgia. Off 1-95 we went and drove through the small town (popular 1,975) to the waterfront restaurant. Kids ran out, counted 5 alligators, and had a great lunch. So fun!

If you’re planning a road trip soon, here are some tips to make it fun:

Road trip with kids

1

Don’t be afraid to Make Random Road Trip Stops

Sometimes, the best memories are made when you veer off your GPS and follow a billboard to a random place.

2

Read, then watch: Kids movies based on a book

Movies v. Book Challenge: Every kids loves a challenge. challenge your kids with the ultimate reading list to find out if the book is better than the movie. read the book on the way down and on vacation, and watch the movie on the way back.

3

Pack snacks

pack snacks you don’t mind them eating so you can avoid gas station junk food (or at least limit it!) Smart Sweets are gummies without the sugar - and taste like your favorites like twirlers, Swedish fish, and sour patch kids. They are so good, and our kids love them!

4

Pack with Travel Cubes

this will make unpacking and packing so much easier on vacation!

5

Bring water bottles

kids are always thirsty! Be prepared and stay hydrated by bringing reusable water bottles, and you can use them on vacation, too.
