When the day is sunny, we like to visit Brookgreen Gardens.

We’ve all been engulfed in cold, drab weather for several months. Some of y’all have been snowed under for these months, while us southerners living at the beach gripe when the temperature dips below 70.

So when the sun shines, our favorite spot is Brookgreen Gardens. I love this age of four, and when I give him choices about where he’d like to spend the day, he usually chooses Brookgreen. We have an annual membership, and if you’re within an hour’s drive of this spectacular place, I suggest you get one, too. Spending the day outside surrounded by gorgeous gardens is great for the mind. Also, great for photos. Also, great for running and exploring which contributes to an easy bedtime.

The gardens are gorgeous, but we’ve been spending most of our time at the Lowcountry Zoo & the Storybook Forest. He just likes to run around and we take a stroll through the Zoo to see the animals. Here’s my favorite picture of the year, he’s trying to reach for spanish moss. I must have caught that jump at his peak because he’s really high up there!

PS – We visit Brookgreen a LOT. Some more photo albums of this spectacular place on Flickr: last year we visited with my friend Anna (who writes on the blog In the Next 30 days) – here’s the album where he caught a grasshopper (ew!)

and OhMyGoodness here is another album when he’s just a year and a half wearing precious corduroy longalls (awww!)

I love these photos! Brookgreen is such an amazing place. And once the weather is nice, we want to come back up for a visit! Julia will be thrilled to catch more crickets with Thomas!
